In this Red Dead Redemption 2 Treasure Hunting Guide, we will show you everything that is related to the treasure hunt collectibles in the game. Completion of any 3 out of the 4 Treasure Hunts will count as 100% completion.
In Red Dead Redemption 2, there are 4 Treasure Hunts that you can explore to get the treasure for yourself. One of the Treasure Hunt collectibles, “Les Trésor Des Morts”, was a pre-order exclusive that you may not have if you did not pre-order the game.
Treasure Hunts begin with a map that leads you to certain clues at specific locations before you can go to the actual location of the treasure. Each clue will give you a map that will lead you to the next location.
Treasure Hunting Guide – Red Dead Redemption 2
Below we will list all of the 4 Treasure Hunts, as well as guide you to each of the clue’s location until you can reach the actual location of the treasure. Follow our step-by-step guide, which will help you locate the treasure quickly.
Jack Hall Gang Treasure
This Treasure Hunt is given to you by a stranger called Maximo. The reward for this treasure hunt is 2 Gold Bars worth $1,000.
Get the map from Maximo from the location marked below. He will try to sell you the treasure map for $10, which you can bargain to $5 if you decline his first offer.
With the map, go to the location that is hinted on the map. This location is found on the side of the mountain, Caliban’s Seat. Up on the mountain will be a path leading to the right; this wall will be close to the edge, so you will have to walk carefully. Keep following this path, jump a ledge to continue, and you will find the first clue in the crack of the wall.
To get to the 2nd clue, you must go to Cotorra Springs, where a pile of stones will be laid out in a box shape. The clue is on the biggest rock out of all from the pile.
To get to the 3rd clue is located on a small island in the middle of the O’Creagh’s Run Lake, and under a rock. This will be your final location and where you will get your treasure of 2 Gold Bars.
Poisonous Trail Treasure
This Treasure Hunt map can be taken from the Cairn Lodge at Cairn Lage and will reward you with 4 Gold Bars.
Firstly, you have to go all the way to the northwestern region of the map to the Cairn Lodge, as located in the picture below. The map will be in a lockbox under the bed next to the door.
The 1st clue’s location is as located on the map. Once you reach the location, there will be a broken tree on the ground halfway up the hill. The third map will be inside the dead tree.
The 2nd clue will take you to West of Van Horn Trading Outpost, as located on the map. Head up the hill where there is a stone formation with a hole in the middle where the treasure map is hidden.
The final treasure can be found in a cave that is behind the waterfall at Elysian Pool. You may use the lantern because of the dark inside. When you enter, drop down the right side and go down the ledge. A little tunnel at the bottom will take you to a series of hidden tunnels. At the very end of the tunnels is the treasure.
High Stakes Treasure
This Treasure Hunt can be taken from a random treasure hunter who gets marked as a Chance Encounter. This stranger can spawn in random locations. This Treasure Hunt will give you 3 Gold Bars worth $1,500. Once you locate him, you will need to lasso and tie him up. He will drop a map that you can pick up.
The first clue location is behind the waterfall at Cumberland Falls. Once you reach there, walk up a wooden log that is to the right of the waterfall. This is where you find another map.
The 2nd treasure map will lead you to Barrow Lagoon, where you will have to walk up a little hill to a broken tree stump that is stuck between rocks. Another treasure map will be inside the tree stump.
The final location is at Bacchus Station, where you need to drop down the side of a mountain above to the lower cliffs, just above the water. You will find the treasure edged in a crevice.
Les Trésor Des Morts Treasure
This Treasure Hunt is a pre-order special for the digital edition of the game. This Treasure hunt gives you the most amount of cash: 5 Gold Bars worth $2,500.
You can find the treasure map in Limpany where there are many burned down houses, except one. Go to the house that is not burnt where you will find the map next to a dead body.
The second location will take you to Saint Denis train yard, where there is an underground passage under one of the buildings. The treasure map is on a wall next to a wooden crate.
The third and final location is inside the Saint Denis graveyard. The treasure will be located in the little building that you can go in to collect the reward.
Chick’s Treasure
This Treasure Hunt is a part of a main Story Mission called “Money Lending and Other Sins” and is given to you by a debtor called Chick Matthews. The reward for this Treasure Hunt is $35.
The reward is located inside a hole in the tree.
