GungHo Online Entertainment has announced Ninjala 2: The Uncharted Planet, a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive that takes the franchise in a bold new direction, targeting a Spring 2027 release.
Revealed during the recent Nintendo Direct, the sequel to the original Ninjala, which accumulated over 11 million downloads worldwide, makes a significant pivot. Where the first game built its identity around high-energy PvP multiplayer, Ninjala 2 trades that in for an open-world action experience.
Players will explore vast, nature-rich environments at their own pace, taking on dungeons and giant bosses while the series’ signature Ninja-Gum combat system remains at the core of every fight. The combat has been expanded with weapon attributes, an item crafting system, and a cooking mechanic that makes use of materials gathered out in the world.
The story kicks off at the WNA Academy, where a mysterious stranger tricks the protagonist into breaking a Forbidden Seal. The entire academy is then launched across the stars and stranded on an unknown planet, while the sinister Prime Tetrad of the Xenos Army is unleashed at the same time. The player’s journey becomes about finding a way back to Earth while uncovering a deeper personal destiny along the way. GungHo is framing this as a two-part narrative, with The Uncharted Planet serving as the first installment and a second chapter planned for a later date.
Fan-favorite characters from the original game, including Lucy, Berecca, and Van, return alongside a new cast. The adventure can be played solo or with up to four players in local or online co-op, with cooperative play designed around tackling dungeons and boss encounters together.
Alongside the announcement, GungHo is launching a limited-time free streaming window for the Ninjala anime starting June 12, with episodes rolling out gradually so new and returning fans can catch up on the story so far.
Those attending Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles will be the first to go hands-on with the game at West Hall booth #2316. Two demo courses will be available, one focused on combat and planetary exploration, and a more laid-back photography sightseeing course. Everyone who plays walks away with a limited-edition keepsake.
Ninjala 2: The Uncharted Planet launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2027. Additional details about the game will be revealed closer to its launch.
