Tripwire Interactive has officially announced Maneater 2, bringing its open-world shark action-RPG franchise back for a new adventure in 2027.
The sequel was revealed during Sony’s State of Play with a debut trailer, confirming that Maneater 2 is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Tripwire is developing the game alongside Boston-based co-development partner Demiurge Studios.
Released in 2020, the original Maneater put players in control of a shark as it explored open waters, consumed increasingly larger prey, and evolved into a more powerful apex predator. The franchise has since reached more than 20 million players, including those who played the Maneater: Truth Quest DLC released in 2021.
Maneater 2 will take players to Neptune’s Kingdom, a luxury theme park and resort built around the splendor of the Roman Empire. Beneath its extravagant surface, however, the park’s advanced marine research operations are pushing technological and ethical boundaries, creating a setting filled with secrets and dangers for players to uncover.
Once again taking control of a bull shark, players will be able to eat, explore, evolve, and attempt to escape the aquatic sandbox. Neptune’s Kingdom will feature a variety of marine creatures to hunt, courses and currents to navigate, and genetically modified elements connected to the park’s research efforts.
The sequel will also mark the return of Trip Westhaven, the disgraced reality television host who served as the narrator of the original game. Chris Parnell will reprise his role, providing commentary throughout the shark’s latest rampage.
According to Tripwire Interactive, the new game aims to deliver a more immersive and detailed experience, with improved underwater environments, enhanced behavior for prey and predator NPCs, and greater visual fidelity. The developers are also promising a larger focus on exploration and evolution as players work their way through Neptune’s Kingdom.
Maneater 2 is scheduled to launch in 2027, although Tripwire has not yet announced a specific release date. The game is already available to wishlist on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S, with more details expected to be shared in the coming months.
