Publisher EA and developer Hazelight Studios have unveiled a new trailer for Split Fiction, showcasing the return of the studio’s signature Friend’s Pass feature. This innovative system allows you to invite a friend to join you in the game’s thrilling co-op adventure for free, requiring only one purchased copy. Your friend does not need to own the game because this system works with just one purchased copy, and this time around, it is even better.
For the first time in a Hazelight title, Split Fiction expands the Friend’s Pass experience with crossplay functionality, enabling players across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC to team up regardless of platform. Additionally, those who haven’t purchased the game can still access a free trial using the Friend’s Pass, allowing both players to experience the game’s opening moments together before deciding to continue with a full purchase.

The Friend’s Pass feature ensures that Split Fiction remains a truly cooperative experience, making it easy for players to find their perfect partner in this sci-fi and fantasy adventure. Anyone who owns the game can invite a friend to join their journey at no extra cost, and the invitation can be sent as many times as needed—even to different players for each playthrough.
How Friend’s Pass Works
Joining a game using Friend’s Pass is a straightforward process. Players who own Split Fiction simply need to have their co-op partner install the Friend’s Pass version of the game on their preferred platform. Once installed, an in-game invite is sent and accepted, allowing both players to experience the full game together.
Even if neither player owns the game, the Friend’s Pass Trial offers an opportunity to sample the adventure at no cost. Both players can download the trial version and play through the opening stages together. If either one chooses to purchase the full game, progress from the trial carries over seamlessly.
To play via crossplay, a free EA Account is required, ensuring a smooth multiplayer experience. For those struggling to find a co-op partner among friends, Hazelight’s official Discord server offers “Looking for Player” channels, making it easy to connect with other fans eager to embark on the adventure.
Split Fiction is set to launch on March 6, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, and the EA app for $49.99.
