Developer Bad Ridge Games and publisher V Publishing have announced the release date of the co-op update for their medieval life sim RPG Mirthwood. The co-op update for Mirthwood arrives on July 10 featuring local co-op and Steam Remote Play support which will allow you to explore the Freelands of Mirthwood alongside your friends and family. The update was revealed during ClemmyGames’ Best Indie Games Summer Showcase 2025, and now we have a confirmed release date for it.
Check out the Mirthwood Co-Op Update Trailer below to see it in action:
With the new update, you will be able to forge your path in a beautifully simulated medieval world with a partner at your side. Previously, the game was only playable solo but soon you will be able to bring a friend along as well. The Co-Op Update brings some much-needed features to the game such as drop-in/drop-out local multiplayer, with a shared dynamic camera system that adjusts as both players explore the world. The complete world of Mirthwood will support the new co-op system.
Player 2 will gain full access to all features of the game including farming, crafting, combat, skill progression, and mount riding. Both players will also retain their individual inventories, skills, and gear, with seamless transitions between co-op and solo gameplay modes. This means that no player will need to compromise on anything if one player decides to leave the game. This also works for the player who leaves the game as they will get to keep everything in their inventory along with their in-game progression in case they want to continue later in solo mode.
The co-op update also introduces romance to the game, meaning that if you’re playing with a partner, you can romance them as well. You have the option to marry your partner, have children, and raise them together. Children will grow up over time, and they will inherit traits from both parents and once they are grown up enough, they will set out on their journeys through Mirthwood. Mirthwood is also getting a new combat system, which now includes a directional attack indicator and an enemy lock-on system.
Different performance optimizations are also part of the update, which will ensure a smoother experience for both players during co-op sessions. Key features of the Mirthwood Co-Op update include:
- Play Together: Local split-screen co-op and Steam Remote Play support.
- Drop-in/Drop-out Gameplay: Join or leave a friend’s world at any time.
- Shared World, Separate Progression: Each player retains their own skills, levels, inventory, and gear.
- Revive Mechanic: A new “downed” state lets players rescue each other in combat.
- Family Building: Marry your co-op partner and raise a child, who grows over time and eventually becomes an adult NPC.
- Improved Combat: New attack direction and enemy lock-on indicators.
- New Content: Additional farm structures, items, and minor optimization improvements.
Mirthwood is currently available on PC via Steam and its Co-Op update is slated to arrive on July 10, 2025. The developers are also working on an online co-op update but it will arrive later in a future update.
