Developer Sole Survivor Games and publisher Forklift Interactive have released the first gameplay trailer for their upcoming title Space Scum. Space Scum is a tactical RPG that combines strategy with turn-based combat and is set in a dystopian, comic book-style universe. You will assemble the biggest, baddest Mercenary Company in the Outer Rim and use them to complete various missions in space to earn loot and upgrade your gear to tackle harder missions.
Check out the Gameplay Trailer below:
Space Scum features turn-based battles in which your squad will take on aliens and other enemies in brutal combat. Each soldier in your squad will bring a unique specialty to the table. Some will bring bigger weapons, while some will bring expertise to control mounted weapons. However, one thing you must remember is that the game features permadeath, which means if a soldier dies in battle, they are gone for good. There is no coming back for the dead soldiers in the game. As you complete missions, you will collect spoils of war, rewards, and experience.
These can be used to purchase new weapons, ship upgrades, and hire new talent to replace your fallen mercenaries. While looking for new mercs for your squad, you can look into new combat styles to add to your squad, like sharpshooters, hackers, or even shield-bearing heavy mercs that can take enough damage for the entire team to ensure their survival. You can choose custom origins for the Mercenary Company, which means that each run in the game will be different, and thanks to procedurally generated planets, you can always be in for a surprise.
Simon Reynolds, developer at Sole Survivor Games, comments:
We make no apologies – Space Scum is a grueling experience where failure has grave consequences. But the thing with challenging games is the feeling of accomplishment when you learn from your mistakes and apply the lessons from past failures is second to none. That’s why we made Space Scum.
Sole Survivor Games is known for titles like Honey, I Joined a Cult, while Forklift Interactive is known for their previous release, Cash Cleaner Simulator. Their brand-new title Space Scum will be present at the Indie Arena Booth at gamescom 2025, from August 20 to August 24, 2025.
