Publisher Frontier Developments is marking World Conservation Day with a new look at one of the environments coming to Planet Zoo 2, highlighting the game’s Scottish Highland Reserve and its focus on wildlife conservation when it launches later this year.
Released as part of the annual conservation awareness event, the latest trailer offers a tour through the reserve’s rugged mountain landscapes, winding rivers, and rolling countryside inspired by the Scottish Highlands. The footage emphasizes the game’s attention to natural environments while showcasing habitats designed to reflect real-world ecosystems.
Among the animals featured are the Red Deer, one of Scotland’s most recognizable native species, along with brief appearances from the Golden Eagle, a bird of prey closely associated with the region’s mountainous terrain. Frontier says the reserve has been created to capture both the visual character of the Highlands and the importance of preserving habitats that support these species.
Like its predecessor, Planet Zoo 2 places conservation and animal welfare at the center of its management gameplay. Players are tasked with designing and operating modern zoos while creating habitats tailored to the needs of different species. Balancing guest satisfaction, staff management, and financial performance remains important, but the series also emphasizes responsible animal care, breeding programs, and environmental education.
The new Scottish Highland Reserve represents another example of the diverse locations players will be able to recreate and manage, offering a setting built around native wildlife and expansive natural scenery. While the latest trailer primarily serves as a visual showcase rather than a gameplay reveal, it highlights the environmental detail and atmosphere Frontier is aiming to deliver in the sequel.
The World Conservation Day spotlight also reflects one of the franchise’s long-standing themes. Since the original Planet Zoo launched, Frontier has regularly partnered engaging management gameplay with educational messaging about biodiversity, endangered species, and habitat preservation, encouraging players to think beyond simply building successful attractions.
Planet Zoo 2 is scheduled to launch for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game will be available in a Standard Edition, priced at $49.99, and a Deluxe Edition, priced at $64.99. Fans can head over to its official Steam page and add the game to their wishlist.
