AWAKEN: Astral Blade Release Date Announced For PC and PS5

Indie publisher ESDigital Games and developer Dark Pigeon Games have announced the release date of AWAKEN: Astral Blade, their upcoming action-packed Metroidvania side-scrolling game. AWAKEN: Astral Blade is set to release on October 22, 2024. The game will be available digitally on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as on PS5. AWAKEN: Astral Blade promises an immersive experience filled with fast-paced combat, deep storytelling, and strategic gameplay.

In AWAKEN: Astral Blade, you step into the shoes of Tania, a bionic clone from the OS-CR100 series, created by the enigmatic Dr. Herveus. Tania embarks on a perilous mission to locate a team of missing researchers in the dense rainforests of the Horace Islands. What begins as a rescue operation soon turns into a deeper journey of self-discovery as Tania unearths ancient secrets, explores the ruins of the lost Jacha City, and confronts the mysterious Karpas energy. This dangerous power has mutated the island’s wildlife, and Tania must face deadly foes as she uncovers the truth about her origins and destiny.

Part of the third phase of the China Hero Project, an initiative by Sony Interactive Entertainment Shanghai to support Chinese game developers, AWAKEN: Astral Blade has already garnered attention, winning the ‘Best in Play’ award at GDC 2024. The game’s unique blend of fast combat mechanics, decision-driven storytelling, and intricate level design makes it stand out in the Metroidvania genre.

You can expect a challenging combat system with a wide variety of combo attacks and skills, designed to help them overcome hordes of enemies and intense boss fights. Parry enemy attacks, use the Quick Rise ability to recover in battle, and master slow-motion runs to gain invincibility during critical moments. The game offers multiple endings, with player decisions shaping the narrative, making each playthrough unique.

ESDigital Games is also partnering with Meridiem to offer a physical edition of the game. The PS5-exclusive Tania’s Edition will feature a specially designed slipcase, a printed Lore Book detailing the history of Jacha City, a digital soundtrack, and a Mech Mutant Prototype sticker. PlayStation fans will also gain access to post-launch DLC, and additional outfits for Tania, including a PlayStation-exclusive outfit.
