Dune: Awakening Confirms September 22 Console Launch with Full Single-Player Mode and Major Updates

Dune: Awakening Pre-Orders Beta Console

Funcom has announced that Dune: Awakening, its open-world survival game set in the universe of Frank Herbert’s Dune, is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 22, 2026. Pre-orders are live now on both platforms. The announcement was made during the Sony State of Play presentation.

The console launch isn’t just a straight port. Funcom is positioning September as the arrival of the definitive version of the game across all platforms, combining over a year’s worth of PC updates and improvements with a wave of new additions coming to both PC and console simultaneously.

Funcom CEO Rui Casais described the release as “a major milestone, the result of over a year of work,” calling it “the best version yet of Dune: Awakening, on PC and console.”

Here’s what’s coming with the September release:

  • Console: Same experience as on PC, with controls and UI optimised for console. 60fps target for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in Performance Mode.
  • Single-player: The full game can now be played entirely in single-player, with scalable difficulty and a wide range of gameplay customisation settings.
  • Story complete: The grand finale of Book One, offering a dramatic conclusion to Dune: Awakening’s cinematic storyline, playable from start to finish.
  • Scalable difficulty: Tweak everything from harvesting rates to experience gain and combat difficulty. In single-player and private servers, players are in full control.

New players on PC and console will also benefit from everything added since the original launch, including:

  • Optional PvP: The entire game can now be played in full PvE in multiplayer, including the Deep Desert and faction vs. faction conflicts.
  • Bigger, better late-game loop: Rebuilt from the ground up for a more balanced and content-rich experience.
  • No more loss: A vehicle backup tool and base reconstruction tool mean extended breaks in multiplayer no longer cost you your progress.
  • Self-hosted servers: PC players can now host their own servers without renting one, with full customisation options.
  • New content: The story has expanded, and several new map locations have been added with new challenges and rewards.
  • Quality of life: A range of improvements, including character re-customisation and the removal of taxes.

Creative Director Joel Bylos said the game offers players “the ultimate opportunity to step into the books and movies and experience one of science fiction’s most iconic worlds up close,” adding that tie-in content connected to the films is also lined up for later this year.

Looking beyond September, Funcom has confirmed that a new survival map called The Polar Cap, a new Hagga Basin-style area located at the Arrakis pole, will arrive as a free update later in the year, introducing new content and survival mechanics.

On the Xbox side, Dune: Awakening will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one on September 22 and will be fully Xbox Play Anywhere enabled, supporting cross-play between Xbox and Microsoft Store players with shared progress across both platforms. The game will also run on the ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Cloud Gaming. On PC, it is Steam Deck verified and available on GeForce Now.

The game is available in three editions: Standard Edition at $49.99, Deluxe Edition at $69.99, and Ultimate Edition at $89.99. Pre-ordering the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition comes with an early access head start ahead of the full launch.
