Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Wolf Guide

Below we have listed all the attacks that are specific and special to Wolf. Refer to each attack for a better understanding of how Wolf combats in the stage.

Introduction

Wolf comes with the inclusion of other StarFox fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He is the heaviest of all the other StarFox fighters, however, he shares much of the same special moves that Fox and Falco have in their arsenal.

Wolf’s fighting style is based on a baiting and then punishing opponents. With Wolf, your main strength is to bait opponents into his powerful attacks, and applying pressure on them.

The main weakness of Wolf is that he has slow ground speed, and his Dash speed nothing special either. His air attacks are not as versatile as his other fellow StarFox mates, but even after the fact that his speed is slow, his air mobility surprisingly superb considering that he is a heavyweight fighter.

Grounded Attacks

This section of the guide contains all the grounded attacks that Wolf can perform while on the stage.

Neutral Attacks

Wolf has three Neutral attacks. All of the three neutral attacks are claw slashes that are hit in a combo. Wolf begins with a two hit slashes that deal 2 damage each, while the finishing attack is his heavy reverse right handed slash that sends enemies away into the air dealing 4 damage.

Defensive Attacks

Wolf has two Defensive attacks. The first one is the Ledge Attack that deals 9 damage, while the second is the Wake-up attack that deals 7 damage.

Dash Attacks

This attack deals 11 damage, where Wolf, runs and drives his boot into the torso of the enemy that pops them up in the air.

If you hit the attack in the early stage of the move, you will not only pop them but also deal full damage of this attack’s potential. If you hit in the later stage of the move, you only knock back the enemy.

Against low percentage opponent, say less than 30%, if you get a clean hi that pops the enemy behind you as your cross with the dash, you can follow this attack with a reverse tilt to knock them up for a potential air juggle trap and air-dodge bait setup. Alternatively, you can combo the clean dash attack with an up-angled side tilt, dealing high damage and knocking the opponent away.

Smash Attacks

Wolf has three smash attacks.

Side Smash

This attack deals 15 damage, where Wolf forces his palm in the direction of the enemy that blasts them away.  The attack is slow to start, but is safe considering that it has shield stun and end lag, making it less risky as long as you connect the hit against an opponent, hit or shielded.

Up Smash

This attack deals 6, 12 damage, where Wolf produces a sweeping windmill kick that pops enemies above him and then launches them into the sky with strong kick.

The first par to of the attack covers both the front and the back of Wolf with his sweeping action, while the second kick is the anti-air launcher.

Down Smash

This attack deals 16 damage, where Wolf crouches and delivers a powerful sweep with his claw, that starts in the front and then his behind. This attack if hit, blasts enemies away.

Tilts

Wolf has three Tilt Attacks.

Side Tilt

This attack deals 5, 6 damage, where Wolf produces a dangerous slash with both his hands in front of him. This attack can be angled up or down, and is useful as an anti-air and for following up with pop up attacks.

The speed of this attack is excellent, but its range is also something to be noticed since it deals considerable damage when the enemy is just under max distance away. While its is not safe when shielded at point black range, it is incredibly difficulty to punish if spaced.

Up Tilt

This attack deals 10 damage, where Wolf delivers a high kick in front of him that covers the entire front side of him, and the are directly above his head. This attack can also hit crouching opponents in front of him, and it launches enemies into the air.

This tilt does not cover the back of Wolf, which does not make it so versatile, which means that you will be forced to turn and perform another up tilt behind you.

Down Tilt

This attack deals 6 damage, where Wolf crouches down and delivers a leg poke at the feet of the opponent. This is a fast attack, but is limited to range and end lag. This attack is risky if shielded and does not lead to any combo opportunities.

Grabs

Wolf has five Grab Attacks. His first grab deals 1.3 damage. The next are the Front and Back throw that deal 9 and 11 damage, respectively. Finally the Up Throw deals 7 damage, while the Down Throw deals 8.5 damage.

Wolf grabs the opponent by the collar quickly in the Grab attack. From there you can almost immediately follow up with any throw you wish, however the back throw has the most off-screen knockout potential against the Front throw that just throws the enemy nearby.

Down throw is lackluster in both direct damage and potential damage since it doesn’t bounce the opponent into the air (they’re simply knocked back away from you).

Aerial Attacks

This section of the guide will cover all the Aerial attacks that Wolf has.

Neutral Air Attack

This attack deals 12 damage, where Wolf delivers a long lasting kick in the air. This kick deals significant damage if hit early on in the move. It is not that fast but is gets the job done if hit. This attack makes a great air to ground fast falling attack and offers sever good combo potential since it can combo into his jab. If an opponent is at around 60%-70%, you can even side tilt for more damage.

Forward Air Attack

This attack deals 9 damage, where Wolf performs a far-reaching claw slash aimed downward. The attack starts above his head and knocks foes up into the air, potentially setting up a juggle opportunity. Forward air attack is fast, has a high-priority hitbox extending forward, and covers a wide angle.

Due to its versatility, forward air is one of your staple attacks. It’s a strong air-to-air that can beat out incoming attacks because of its extended reach. Off of a deep forward air, you can almost always score a combo follow-up. At low percentages, you can combo into up-angled side tilt, dash-in up tilt, or short hop forward air attack. At mid percentages, you can go for a dashing jump forward air attack, or a dashing jump up air attack, launching the enemy higher into a juggle trap.

Back Air Attack

This attack deals 15 damage, where Wolf produces a powerful back heel kick that knocks enemies behind him. This attack has the least bit of lag against any another aerial attack in his arsenal.

This attack does not have a particular potential for combo since enemies are knocked a large distance away from him, but is an excellent edge guarding tool and serves a great purpose as a finishing move against enemies out off the stage.

Up Air Attack

This attack deals 12 damage, where Wolf swings his claw in a wide arc above his head, that launches any airborne enemy higher up in the sky. This attack starts quickly and has a great amount of landing lag. Plus its hitbox is just covered above your head, so it does not do anything against grounded enemies in front and behind Wolf.

While this attack has its weaknesses by being strictly air to air attack, it does make it for with speed, and launching power with high priority hit box.

Down Air Attack

This attack deals 15 damage,, where Wolf descends upon the enemy with a vicious double claw smashing attack. This attack is very slow but incredibly powerful. It is a superb finisher off the stage, and against recovering enemies.

This attack has great landing lag, so you have to be precise with your landing, or you will be going off the stage as well.

Special Moves

Wolf has 4 special moves. All of them are detailed below.

Neutral Special – Blaster

This attack deals 8, 6 damage, where Wolf takes out his Blaster, and fist stabs the opponent with the blade attached to it, and then fires a Blaster Shot. The Blaster shot also works as a projectile that can be fired from a distance.

When Wolf draws out his gun, he extends a horizontal hitbox, fires the gun, and then swings the melee hitbox upward, ending above his head.

Side Special – Wolf Flash

This attack deals 3 damage on Dash, and 20 (15) on Claw. In this attack, Wolf rockets forward and into the air at an angle with a two-part slashing attack. The first slashing attack while he flies through the air launches foes for a potential combo follow-up, while the second aerial slash attack has a meteor smash effect.

You can alter the angle of this attack by holding up or down on the control stick as Wolf readies the attack. If the move ends while you’re airborne, you fall in a helpless state. However, you can overcome some of these drawbacks by aiming so that you land on a platform above you, mitigating your risk to punishment

Up Special – Fire Wolf

This attack deals 3.5, 1.5×3, 5 damage, where Wolf is engulfed in a blue fire that damages any opponent nearby. It is then followed by him transitioning it to a multi-hit flying kick in any direction, dragging opponents with before launching them away.

This attack is best saved for a recovery option as it is highly risky and used to get back on the stage. It has great launching power, so if you can read your opponents attack and dodge their laggy or mistimed attacks, you can potentially ledge knockout the opponent.

Down Special – Reflector

This attack deals 4 damage on activation, and 1.5x if projectile is reflected. In this attack, Wolf activates a projectile reflecting barrier. This wall reflects any projectile coming his way and increase the damage of the projectile by 50%,.

This reflector take s long time to activate and however, it gives this heavyweight fighter a handy tool to give him way to deal with zoners. Since Wolf is not that fast paced brawler, Reflector can be used as an offstage recovery tool, allowing you to safely deal with edge-guarding projectile tactics. If you time Reflector accurately while airborne, you can recover from its animation fast enough to immediately act.

Final Smash – Team Star Wolf

Wolf’s Final Smash attacks involves him displaying a targeting reticle in front of him, that can lock onto opponents. Whereby, a wolf team shows up and aids you by firing on the target.
