Square Enix Announces Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent for Mobile

Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent

The popular RPG game Octopath Traveler that was released on the Nintendo Switch, is now getting a prequel for mobile devices as announced by Square Enix.  The game is called Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent and will be using the same HD 2.5D setup like the first game.

The title is set to be released in Japan through mobile app stores sometime later this year in 2019. However, players interested can start applying on 12 March for access to an early demo. There is now word on an international release as of now, but that would just be a matter of time as the original game did so well by selling 1.5 million copies.

Square Enix Produced Masashi Takahashi had said that releasing the game worldwide was a big challenge but the tremendous reception they received had made the struggles along the way worth it.

Just thinking that fans in all corners of the world will be enjoying ‘Octopath Traveler’ at the same time truly blows me away.

So what can you expect in the game? The story is set in Osterra, before the events of the original story, plus the characters from the Nintendo Switch version will also make an appearance in the smartphone game as well.

In the gameplay, you will be able to play with 8 playable characters in battles, plus additional characters will be added with the story related content that will be released later on.

The best thing by far is that the game would be free-to-play for anyone, depending if it releases for the western audiences as well. Meanwhile Square Enix has also given positive news for the Nintendo Console Sequel of the game, saying that the team is working on the next console game. however that will take a while as they hope the mobile version for the game is going to interest people for now.

Octopath Traveler was nominated for several awards at The Game Awards 2018 last year. The nominations included Best Art Direction, Best Score/Music, and Best RPG.
