King of Fighters XV Announced by SNK at EVO 2019

King of Fighters XV SNK

SNK took to the stage during the EVO 2019 event and announced that King of Fighters XV is in development however nothing else was revealed. The developer did not reveal any other information on the game and only stated that the title is in development. No release window or platforms were announced along with the tiny teaser which only showcased the name of the game.

The announcement by SNK came on the third day of the world’s biggest fighting event. SNK plans to reveal more information on the title soon however until then, we can only make some guess on what sort of title it could be and what platforms it would come. With the next generation of consoles on the horizon, we won’t be surprised if King of Fighters XV is a next-gen title.

The developer could release the game both on the current generation and then re-released on the next generation as well because we have seen developers do this in the past. A reveal coming at this point when the next-generation of consoles is about to arrive soon could only mean that it will be a cross-gen title or will arrive at the new generation. Releasing only on the current generation will mean loss of player base as nearly everyone is preparing to move to the next-gen now.

King of Fighters franchise holds a very special place in every fighting game fan’s heart. The franchise dates back to 1994 when the first game in the franchise The King of Fighters ‘94 was released. The game started its life as an arcade only fighting game for SNK’s New Geo MVS arcade machines. After that, SNK has ported the games to numerous platforms and the most recent game The King of Fighters XIV was released on PS4 and PC back in 2016.

Since this generation already has a King of Fighters game, we are certain that King of Fighters XV will arrive on the next-generation of consoles. Even if the game arrives on the current generation, SNK might still look forward to porting the game to the next generation because it is now very close and most of the players are already planning to make the switch as soon as the new generation drops.

This is not the first time however when SNK has talked about King of Fighters XV. Back in December 2018, SNK confirmed the game during an IPO press conference however nothing was revealed about the game back then. The art and the confirmed announcement was just made during the EVO 2019 Day 3. We also got to see the Season 3 Pass for Tekken 7 and the new content arriving in Soul Caliber VI soon.

What do you think SNK plans for King of Fighters XV? Do you want it to arrive on the current-gen or will you prefer if the game arrives on the next-generation as a launch title? Let us know in the comments section below.
