Fallout 76 Update Adds Repair Kits Raising Pay-to-Win Concerns

Fallout 76 Repair Kits

Bethesda’s new update for Fallout 76 has brought in Repair kits as a micro transaction item. Repair Kits are designed to repair weapons and armor without needing to waste resources. These can now be bought with real money in the in-game Atomic Shop.

Bethesda announced the addition of repair kits in its latest Inside the Vault post updating players on the state of the game.

Repair Kits are new utility items that will help you spend more time looting and shooting, and less time toiling away at a workbench fixing your gear. We’ve received lots of requests for Repair Kits, and we’re excited to add them in the weeks following Patch 8.

The addition of repair kits will make lives easier for many players by cutting down the amount of time players spend scavenging for materials needed to repair their favorite weapons and Power Armor.

However, fans are unhappy with the addition of such items that are pay-to-win. Especially considering when Bethesda has broken its own promise to keep the so called “pay-to-win” items out of the premium game.

Bethesda’s Pete Hines told Gamespot last year in October,

If you don’t want to spend money in the Atomic Shop for cosmetic stuff, you don’t have to. We give you a shitload of Atoms just for playing the game. Folks that want to spend money on whatever the hell it is because they don’t have enough Atoms, they can, but it’s not, “I’m now better playing against other players because I spent money.” It’s not pay-to-win. And it’s not loot crates.

Repair kits would give those players a competitive edge against others. As players who could instantly repair their armors and guns while engaging in PVP would be able to carry on a fight longer than their peers who have to repair their items on a workbench. That is if they can find it fast enough. The advantage is not that big of a deal, but it does compromise the overall balance of power.

Nonetheless, Bethesda has not revealed how much the repair kits will cost. However, the studio appeared to suggest that this might be the first thing in line to be added as the utility items to come in the Atomic Shop

We read tons of feedback and suggestions from the Fallout 76 community, and Repair Kits were a popular request that we wanted to get into players’ hands. We also felt we could try out something new with these, both in-game and in the Atomic Shop. As we look to the future, we’re exploring ways we can bring other community-driven ideas to the game as well, such as refrigerators for C.A.M.P.s, ammo and food converters, and even the ability to send scrap to your stash without having to head home.

What do you think of the addition of repair kits in Fallout 76? Do you think its unfair and will throw the overall balance of power of the game? let us know in the comments below.
