Developer Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment have revealed the first look trailer for John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando. Revealed during the gamescom 2025 ONL, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is a co-op horror shooting and off-road driving sim game, which is inspired by the 80s action-horror. The trailer reveals gameplay where players team up with their friends and battle hordes of monstrosities before they can infect the entire world. Powered by Saber’s Swarm engine, the technology behind World War Z: Aftermath and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando will unleash hell on players in 2026.
Check out the Gameplay Trailer for John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando below:
The game takes place in the near future when an experimental attempt to harness the power of Earth’s core ends in a terrifying disaster, and it turns the soil to scum and the living to undead monsters. The genius behind this experiment now wants to make things right with a team of highly trained mercenaries. When that ends up being too expensive, he goes for the Toxic Commando instead.
You will jump into the game as part of a squad with up to three other players. The game will offer full crossplay support across PC and consoles. As part of this team, you will send the Sludge God and its horde of undead things back to the underworld. The game will feature a diverse character roster, each with a unique gameplay style. To move around the game, you will also have options of different rides, and when you want to battle the undead hordes, you will have a vast array of guns, grenades, special abilities, and katanas.
Key features of the game are detailed as:
- Buddy-movie vibes and the over-the-top humor, action, and horror of classic ‘80s cinema, inspired by and with the involvement of the legendary John Carpenter
- Teaming up with friends to face down hordes of monsters who want to eat your face
- An explosive cocktail of visceral FPS action and off-road driving on slime-corrupted terrain across massive post-apocalyptic environments
- Upgrading your skills and testing new abilities against increasingly hardcore challenges
- Saving the planet against impossible odds
John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is slated for release on PC via Epic Games Store and Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. You can head over to its official Steam page right now and add it to your wishlist as well. Additional details about the game will be revealed later.
