Developer and publisher Digital Extremes wrapped up 2024 with its final Warframe: 1999 Devstream, unveiling an array of new announcements and updates. From surpassing a major charity milestone to revealing details about Warframe: 1999, the livestream was filled with new information about Warframe: 1999 and the tons of new content and changes it is bringing to the game later this month.
A major highlight was Digital Extremes’ celebration of raising over one million Canadian dollars for The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, a testament to the dedication of the Warframe community. Meanwhile, today also marks the launch of the eagerly awaited Warframe: 1999 anime short, produced in collaboration with THE LINE, with additional launch details for the expansion set to be unveiled during The Game Awards on Dec. 12.
Warframe: 1999 will transport you back to the turn of the millennium with a dark, infested twist, introducing an ambitious PvPvE multiplayer mode, a new romance and relationship system, original ‘90s-inspired music, two fresh enemy factions, and Cyte-09, the game’s 59th Warframe. Megan Everett, Community Director, emphasized that while this devstream marks the year’s final, it is far from the last big moment for Warframe you, teasing more updates and appearances for 2025 and beyond.
Key updates from the devstream include the launch of On-lyne’s latest single, THE GREAT DESPAIR, which you unlock by decoding cryptic in-game messages. You can now enjoy this new music track with the help of a comprehensive summary of the alternate reality game (ARG) created by the Warframe community.
In addition, Warframe introduces Faceoff, a brand-new PvPvE mode where two teams of four compete on opposite sides of Höllvania to complete objectives while fending off waves of enemies. You can earn team-boosting perks and hindrances for rivals, creating a strategic and dynamic experience.
New details about Warframe: 1999 gameplay revealed Cyte-09’s unique abilities, including cloaking tech, elemental ammo packs, and its Exalted sniper rifle, Neutralizer. The expansion also delves into the Scaldra faction with Neil Newbon voicing the ambitious Lieutenant Viktor Vodyanoi. You can interact with members of The Hex through chat systems, unlocking rewards such as crafting resources, cosmetics, and music tracks as relationships develop.
Refinements to Warframe’s gameplay also continue, with updates to new player experiences, reworks for Trinity and Nyx, and quality-of-life enhancements arriving in the next narrative chapter. Though the Technocyte Coda’s tour has been postponed to early 2025, Digital Extremes remains committed to the game with further upgrades, content, and enhancements.
Warframe: 1999 is one of the biggest DLCs released for Warframe and it is slated for launch this month.
