Developers and publishers NEXON and NEXON Games have rolled out the Season 2 Update 2 for The First Descendant. The new update brings a fresh wave of content, including the introduction of a new playable Descendant, Ines Raya, alongside Void Erosion Purge stages, the Weapon Core Unlocking system, and a challenging new Void Abyss Intercept Battle.

Ines Raya, the newest addition to the H.O.U.N.D. roster, excels in missions involving the Void Vessel. With her unique ability to unleash powerful streams of lightning, Ines is designed for electrifying gameplay. Her skills include:
Passive Skill: Plasma Oscillation – Amplifies damage to enemies affected by the Conductor status, dealing additional damage to nearby foes when landing critical hits.
Active Skills:
- Chain Lightning
- Strike enemies with a chain of lightning. The lightning bolts bounce between enemies and deal damage before returning to Ines.
- Lightning Conductor
- Inflict an electric shock through current coils on enemies within range.
- Discharge
- Consume plasma and gather the converted electrical current in her fist, releasing it as a powerful blast in front of her.
- Snare Hunter
- Throw a plasma acceleration coil forward. The plasma acceleration coil creates a Thunder Snare at the location it hits, dealing damage to nearby enemies for a certain period, and inflicts an electric shock through current coils on enemies within range at regular intervals.
The update also introduces Void Erosion Purge, a new hack-and-slash challenge featuring 20 stages of increasing difficulty. You will face off against Vulgus monsters, starting at level 160 and progressing to level 250. Successful completion rewards you with items essential for Weapon Core Reinforcement, a newly added system to enhance ultimate weapons.
The Weapon Core Unlocking system unlocks at Mastery Rank 18 and above and allows you to upgrade your weapons even further. Each weapon features five core slots for specialized upgrades and additional free-type slots for customization. These upgrades utilize Augmentation Core items, which can be farmed in higher stages of Void Erosion Purge.
The Void Abyss Intercept Battle introduces a formidable new boss, the Defiler, replacing the Infernal Walker. This colossus intensifies the challenge with Abyss Symbionts which boosts its mobility and strength. To succeed, you must strategically destroy these Symbionts during combat. Rewards for defeating the Defiler include the exclusive skin “The Defiled” and a themed back attachment.
To celebrate the second update, The First Descendant is hosting two limited-time events. The New Year’s Luck Shop, running from January 15 to February 12, allows you to exchange tokens earned from missions for various in-game rewards. Details include:
New Year’s Luck Shop – From January 15, 2025 – February 12, 2025 (PST)
- During this event, players will be able to complete daily and weekly missions to earn 2025 tokens and exchange the earned tokens for desired items in the New Year’s Luck Shop
- Key items in the shop will change every two weeks, offering a variety of items such as Weapon Selection boxes, Energy Activators, Emotes, Attachments, and more.
Meanwhile, Twitch Drops offer cosmetics for watching partnered streams, including paint colors and a Bunny Head skin. Details include:
Twitch Drops – From January 16, 2025 – February 12, 2025 (PST)
Players can earn charming cosmetic rewards from watching partnered streams on Twitch
- Watch for 30 minutes: ‘Twitch Color’ Paint *2
- Watch for 60 minutes: 2 Hair Paints ‘Regular Blue’
- Watch for 90 minutes: Bunny Head Skin – White Space Bun

The First Descendant is currently available on PC via Steam and consoles including PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 for free. You can download the game on your desired platform for free and jump into it without paying a single dime. There are plenty of microtransactions in the game but they are mostly cosmetics and consumable items like XP boosters and such. Season 2 is currently in full swing and with its second update going live, you can purchase and play as the newest Descendant Ines Raya as well.
