PS1-Inspired Sci-Fi Horror FPS DERELIKT Announced for PC, Launching Later This Year

DERELIKT PC

Developer Visuwyg and publisher Hyperstrange have officially unveiled DERELIKT, a narrative-driven first-person shooter inspired by the atmospheric sci-fi horror games of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Scheduled to launch on PC later this year, DERELIKT combines retro PlayStation-era visuals with survival horror mechanics, resource management, and a story set aboard an abandoned research station orbiting Saturn.

Rather than emphasizing fast-paced action, DERELIKT focuses on exploration, tension, and survival as players uncover the mystery behind a remote space outpost where something has gone terribly wrong. The game takes place aboard Von Neumann Outpost, a research facility constructed within a derelict asteroid in Saturn’s orbit. When players arrive, the station is in disrepair, its systems are failing, and only a handful of survivors remain.

As they venture deeper into the facility, players will explore laboratories, crew quarters, maintenance corridors, and other sections while piecing together what happened through environmental storytelling and conversations with the station’s remaining inhabitants. According to the developers, more than a dozen non-playable characters inhabit the outpost, each with their own motivations and perspective on the disaster. Some may provide valuable information or assistance, while others could become obstacles, creating a narrative where players must decide who, if anyone, can be trusted.

Combat is built around survival rather than overwhelming firepower. Ammunition, health supplies, and inventory space are deliberately limited, encouraging players to carefully consider every encounter. The arsenal includes both conventional firearms and alien weaponry, but resource scarcity means every shot carries weight throughout the campaign. Exploration also plays a critical role in the game. Players will need to solve environmental puzzles, search for supplies, and unlock new areas of the station as they progress. The increasingly hostile environment is designed to reinforce the sense of isolation, with the danger escalating as players descend further into the facility.

Fans of the retro, PS1-inspired visuals will be happy to know that DERELIKT embraces the distinctive look of early 3D console games while pairing it with modern controls and quality-of-life improvements. The developers cite classics such as System Shock 2, Alien Resurrection, and Doom 3 as major influences, recreating the era’s aesthetic through warped textures, hand-painted vertex lighting, dynamic geometry, and full-motion CGI cutscenes. Rather than simply replicating older technology, the game aims to capture the atmosphere and design philosophy that defined sci-fi horror during that period.
