PlayStation 5 Release Sooner Than Expected, Backward Compatibility

PlayStation 5 Release

PlayStation 5 release could be sooner than expected. At least that is what analysts would have us believe. Amir Anvarzadeh, an analyst at Asymmetric Advisors Pte thinks that the PlayStation 5 could be released this upcoming fiscal year. If that is indeed the case then it is possible that the PS5 will beat Xbox One Scarlett to market. It will all come down to which console is better in terms of power and who provides the better exclusive titles.

We have already been getting reports that developers that make games for Sony already have PS5 dev kits and if that is the case then the analysts might be right. The following is what Amir Anvarzadeh had to say regarding the release of the PlayStation 5:

There are even more drawbacks as we expect the slowdown in growth in the Games division will be a very likely PS5 launch for the coming fiscal year and the associated cost of launching a new platform. It’s definitely not as positive as the headlines suggest It feels a bit negative overall. Strong gains from the game software were offset by higher advertising and marketing costs aimed at increasing PS4 volume. We’re on the fringes until we can better assess the gambling risks.

Another report indicates that it is more than likely that the PlayStation 5 will release with backward compatibility. A new patent that was spotted hinted at backward compatibility and this could mean that players will be able to play PlayStation 1, 2, 3 and 4 games on the upcoming PS5. This would be very interesting indeed and would give fans an incentive to ditch all the previous consoles in favor of a single new one.

We also spotted a recent Sony job listing that mentioned some sort of cloud computing feature and streaming. These could be features of the PS5 as well. If information regarding the PlayStation 5 release is indeed true then we might be able to learn more about the console at E3 2019. We know that Microsoft will be going big this year and the same could be the case with Sony as well.
