Nintendo Confirms There Won’t Be a Switch Pro This Year

Nintendo Switch Pro

Nintendo has confirmed that the company does not have any plan for a new Nintendo Switch Pro console this year. The company would instead be working to promote the recently released Switch Lite over the course of 2020.

This comes after there were many speculations that Nintendo might release a new and more powerful version of the console called Switch Pro. If the new console was announced, it would not have been surprising considering that 2020 is a big year for the next generation of consoles. Both Sony and Xbox and set to launch their new consoles in the holiday season of this year.

Regarding Nintendo Switch, we believe that it is important to continue to communicate the appeal of both Nintendo Switch systems and expand the installed base. Please note that we have no plans to launch a new Nintendo Switch model during 2020.

So what is Switch Pro? It is supposedly a similar version of the current Nintendo Switch but will apparently come with beefier components, higher resolution, and a more powerful CPU. However, all such details and information have been nothing but rumors, well before the Nintendo Switch Lite was even announced. When the Lite did make an appearance, the rumors started gaining traction and it seemed more likely that a Pro version might be in the works for a launch.

This does not mean that there won’t be a Switch Pro at all. Nintendo could very well be working on such a console, but maybe finds it too early to announce especially when it has hardly been a few months since the release of Switch Lite. Another likely factor could be that Nintendo wants to look at the Switch sales this year before deciding on their next course. All we can do is wait for next year hoping that we can get our hands on a Switch Pro.
