The creators of Backpack Hero, the indie hit that redefined inventory management in roguelikes, are back with a bold new experiment. Developer Jaspel and publisher Pretty Soon have announced their latest title Moon Watch, a genre-defying blend of bullet-hell action and deckbuilding strategy game. This fresh title flips fast-paced chaos into a tactical experience by introducing the ability to pause time, offering you a chance to think strategically in the middle of combat.
Launching in Early Access later today, Moon Watch promises to deliver a unique take on familiar genres. Unlike traditional bullet-hell games that demand sharp reflexes, this game allows you to halt the action and carefully plan your next move. This innovative mechanic creates an exciting mix of real-time intensity and thoughtful decision-making, setting it apart from the competition.
Check out the Official Reveal Trailer for Moon Watch below to see the game in action:
Set in a world overrun by vampires who rule from a fortress on the moon, you will step into the shoes of one of three unique characters to battle their way through hordes of enemies. Each character offers a distinct playstyle:
- Lucia the Nun: A straightforward and dependable choice, she wields garlic to control space and uses projectiles to strike down her foes.
- Nina the Ninja: A high-risk, high-reward option for close combat enthusiasts, she zips around the battlefield, cursing enemies while dodging attacks.
- Encio the Engineer: The creative wildcard, Encio uses pinball-like movements, deployable turrets, and electrical attacks to wreak havoc. He can even charm enemies into fighting on his behalf.
You will refine your decks, unlocking powerful new cards, rare relics, and even additional characters. Strategic customization plays a key role in shaping each playthrough, as you build devastating combos and adapt to evolving challenges.
Watch seems to be a unique experiment in blending genres and so far from the gameplay video, it looks promising. The game’s ability to pause time as soon as you stop moving offers a refreshing alternative to pure action gameplay, inviting you to strategize and outwit your foes in entirely new ways. A Steam page for Moon Watch is now live and with the game’s Early Access release right around the corner, you can add it to your wishlist.
