Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment have released a new gameplay overview trailer for John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, offering the clearest look yet at how the four-player co-op shooter plays ahead of its March 12, 2026, launch. The ‘80s-inspired action-horror title is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The new footage breaks down the game’s core loop: squad-based missions set across a semi-open world overrun by mutated monstrosities, with players fighting back using a mix of heavy firepower, character abilities, and vehicle-based mayhem. Built on Saber Interactive’s Swarm Engine technology, Toxic Commando leans heavily into large-scale enemy encounters, sending dense waves of enemies at players from multiple directions.

Players will take on the role of a team of elite mercenaries, playable across four distinct classes: Strike, Medic, Operator, and Defender, each designed to fill a clear combat role. Players can team up with friends or matchmake online, with full crossplay supported across all platforms.
Combat emphasizes flexibility and spectacle. The game features 16 primary weapon categories, alongside a broad selection of secondary tools, ranging from conventional firearms to melee weapons better suited for close-quarters encounters. Vehicles also play a major role, allowing squads to traverse the environment quickly or plow directly through enemy swarms.
Ahead of launch, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando will be playable for the first time through a limited demo on Steam, running from February 19 to March 2. The demo offers players an early taste of the game’s mission structure and cooperative combat, and serves as the first hands-on opportunity since the game’s reveal.
Pre-orders are now live for both the Standard Edition and the Blood Edition. Players who pre-order either version will receive the “Leon’s Secret Stash” DLC at no additional cost. The Blood Edition includes the base game along with the Bloody Pass, which adds two post-launch DLC packs featuring cosmetic content for characters, weapons, and vehicles.
While Toxic Commando wears its influences proudly, from John Carpenter’s signature tone to its unapologetically pulpy presentation, the latest trailer suggests Saber Interactive is aiming for something more structured than pure chaos. The emphasis on class roles, mission design, and vehicle integration points to a co-op shooter that wants coordination to matter, even amid the excess.
With a playable demo arriving weeks before launch, Toxic Commando is giving players a chance to experience a small slice of the game and allows them to position the game confidently in a crowded co-op shooter space. Whether its mix of swarm combat, retro flavour, and squad mechanics can stand out long-term commitment as that of Left 4 Dead 2 will become clearer once players get their hands on it next month.
John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando launches March 12, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
