How to Get Food and Water in Subnautica 2

Subnautica 2 Food Water

This Subnautica 2 Food and Water Guide shows you how you can get necessities, like food and water, on the underwater planet Proteus. Surviving in Subnautica 2 does not mean that you need to avoid only dangerous creatures and exploring. Survival also means to keep yourself alive through water and food.

Food and Water Guide – Subnautica 2

There are two modes in the game. In Creative Mode, you can ignore hunger and thirst completely because you are invulnerable. But Survival Mode is a little bit difficult. Because you have to scout for food and water on the planet. This guide will help you search for food and water, and show you how to craft food and water to survive in the game.

Keep Your Character Hydrated

In real life, you feel the urge to drink water more than to eat food. This also becomes true in Subnautica’s World. Thirst drains faster than hunger. Thankfully, getting clean drinking water is simple once you know what to look for.

Small creatures called Water Slugs can be found moving around the ocean floor. After you collect them, you can use the Fabricator to turn them into drinkable water. This will restore a good amount of 40 hydration.

As you progress further in the game and unlock better equipment, the Processor machine gives you another method for producing water. Instead of collecting Water Slugs, you can now craft water by using 3 Fibrous Pulp.

How to Get Food

Finding food is a little more complicated because your character cannot properly handle alien meat at the start of the game.

Early in the game, the safest food is the Nutrient Blocks. These items restore a decent amount of 40 hunger and are usually found inside supply crates or hidden stashes scattered around the world.

Later, once you unlock the Processor, you can begin creating Biofuel Blocks from organic resources like Fibrous Pulp and Pent. These Biofuel Blocks can then be used together with Salt inside the Fabricator to craft Nutrient Blocks.

Another reliable source of food in the game is Fish. There are many different types of fish that you can eat that are available in the game. Geordies, Halfmoons, and Harvestmoons can be cooked using the Fabricator. Cooked fish restores a fair amount of 25-30 food.

Why Alien Food Is Difficult to Eat

Even after cooking fish, your character still struggles to digest alien creatures at first properly. To fix this, you need to unlock a special Adaptation upgrade. Travel roughly north-northeast from your Lifepod for around 160 meters until you discover a strange organism called the Angel Comb

Angel Comb has a large pink bulb. Interact with it, which unlocks the Digestion upgrade. This allows your character to consume alien plants and animals safely. Once you gain this ability, surviving becomes much easier because you can freely eat or drink more of the resources found across the ocean world.
