This Subnautica 2 guide details where you can find Collector Leviathan in Subnautica 2 and also survive its encounter. Exploring the oceans in Subnautica 2 can feel peaceful at first, with colorful reefs, calm waters, and plenty of fish to catch for food. But the deeper and farther you travel, the more dangerous things will become. One of the biggest threats in the game is the terrifying Collector Leviathan, a giant sea creature that guards the waters between two major regions of the map.
Collector Leviathan Guide – Subnautica 2
Subnautica 2’s map is mainly split into two large sections. The first is the starting area where players spend most of their early game collecting resources, crafting tools, and building equipment. The second area is located far beyond a huge underwater gap filled with deep open water.
You can locate this trench by traveling several hundred meters east of your starting life pod. Reaching it is possible very early in the game, but the trip is not exactly safe. Along the way, you may pass through risky zones with volcanic geysers and other hazards that can make the journey stressful.
The real problem begins once you try to cross the massive open space between the two sides. This area is where the Collector Leviathan patrols. The creature is enormous, aggressive, and very hard to avoid in the early stages of the game.
The crossing itself is around 500 meters wide, which makes swimming through it extremely difficult. Early on, trying to cross by yourself usually ends badly. Because many important resources and materials cannot be found in the starting region, you should go for it. Progressing further into the story also pushes you toward this area later on.
The Best Way to Survive the Leviathan
Your safest option is to use the Tadpole vehicle. This small underwater craft gives you a much better chance of surviving attacks from the Collector Leviathan.
The creature can still grab the Tadpole, but the vehicle is durable enough to survive at least a couple of attacks. It also helps a lot to install the chassis upgrade before making the trip. With the upgrade equipped, the Tadpole moves faster and becomes more agile. If you react quickly enough, you may even avoid getting caught entirely.
After a few encounters, the attacks become less shocking and more like an annoying obstacle standing between you and the other side of the map.
How to Unlock the Tadpole
Getting the Tadpole happens naturally as you continue exploring. Throughout the world, you will come across broken Tadpole remains. By scanning enough of these parts, you unlock the blueprint needed to craft the vehicle.
Before building it, you will first need to create a proper base setup. This includes a Moonpool, a Processor, and a Vehicle Fabricator. Thankfully, the resources needed for these structures are fairly common by the time players start preparing for the crossing.
Once the Tadpole is ready, exploration becomes much easier overall. Areas that were previously difficult to reach because of oxygen limits suddenly become accessible. More importantly, it finally gives you a reliable way to pass through the Collector Leviathan’s hunting grounds without instant death.
