Square Enix has announced that the Heavensward expansion of Final Fantasy 14 is now free for players who own the base game. Heavensward is free to play until June 27th. The expansion is free on both PlayStation 4 and PC.
You can get the expansion from the PlayStation Store for the PS4, while the PC edition is free from the Square Enix store as part of its Golden Week Sale. Both the version require you to already own the base game; The Final Fantasy 14 Online Started Edition. Additionally, Square Enix points out that PC download of Heavensward is not compatible with Steam’s version of the Starter Edition, so you will have to own the base game in some capacity outside Steam.
In Heavensward, you get to play as the Warrior of Light, who is journeying to Ishgard, a city-state of Eorzea built high in the snow-covered mountains. The gates of Ishgard were previously sealed. You task here is to work to end the thousand- year long conflict of the Dragonsong War, that is happening between the Ishgard Theocracy and the Dragon horde of Dravania.
With this expansion, the level cap of 60 is increased in Final Fantasy 14, and new areas have been added in the existing game. It also comes with flying mounts and a new playable race called the Au Ra, who have dragon-like horns. The expansion also includes PvP modes, though the biggest addition to Final Fantasy 14’s base game is three new jobs: Machinist, Astrologian and Dark Knight.
The free Heavensward expansion also includes additional content added via updates such as dungeons, trials, new quests, and raids. It is a very big expansion that almost doubles the content of the game introduced in A Realm Reborn. To play Heavensward, you first have to beat the main story quest from A Realm Reborn.
