Grand Strategy Title Espiocracy Announced at PAX East 2022

Indie publisher Hooded Horse has announced its brand-new grand strategy game Espiocracy which is set at the start of the Cold War. The game puts you in charge of an intelligence agency and you get to rewrite history from the shadows as you influence ideologies, stage coups, and declare proxy wars. You have different tools at your disposal including agents, propaganda, assassinations, and much more.

The game starts with you choosing an intelligence agency of your choice. You work from the shadows and use things like coups, secret agents, proxy wars, and more to change the course of different countries around you. The world around you is recovering from the devastation of World War II and new alliances are forming all around with two major superpowers getting at each other’s throats already.

With major world events taking place all over such as the division of Germany, the Italian Referendum, and the Czechoslovak election, your agency is at the front lines of a new kind of war, and you will be the one pulling the strings of it. Check out the announcement trailer for Espiocracy below:

Key features of the game include:

  • Choose from one of 74 countries and lead their intelligence agency through the Cold War, its twists, and its turns. Whether your chosen nation loses a war, suffers a coup, or has a change of leadership due to foreign actions, your agency remains resolute, working in your best interests through the rough seas of the Cold War.
  • Prepare for nuclear brinkmanship, the Space Race, decolonization, and the ensuing instability and proxy wars that follow as you navigate a world balanced on a knife-edge. Emergent gameplay in Espiocracy is inspired by real-world historical geopolitics, socio-economic circumstances, and precise modeling of views and ideologies.
  • Use your influence to trigger wars or turn the tide of diplomatic negotiations. Your country’s leader may request your input on major decisions, and at times, you’ll find yourself the only thing standing between a hot war or the formation of alliances.
  • Instigate these conversations by building the circumstances that encourage them in the first place. Through the use of domestic and foreign actors, you will manipulate public opinion, support and establish political factions, and stoke the flames of independence, proxy wars, and coups alike.
