Jagex has announced that RuneScape: Dragonwilds, its open-world survival crafting game currently in Steam Early Access, is coming to PS5 later this year. The game will also be available to PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers at launch, marking the first time in the franchise’s 25-year history that a RuneScape title has launched on a console.
The game has already sold over one million copies since arriving on Steam Early Access, making it one of Jagex’s fastest-growing releases. The PS5 version was announced during Sony’s State of Play showcase.
Dragonwilds is a standalone experience completely separate from the main RuneScape MMORPG, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Set on an undiscovered continent called Ashenfall, the game drops players into a hand-crafted open world filled with familiar RuneScape creatures, grand quests, and skill progression, all wrapped in a survival crafting framework. Up to four players can team up to explore Ashenfall’s regions, battle enemies like Zogres and Black Knights, and work their way toward confronting the Dragon Queen herself.
Magic plays a central role in how players survive and interact with the world. The Anima-rich landscape of Ashenfall gives players access to abilities that go well beyond standard survival game mechanics, summoning spectral axes to cut down trees, blinking away from danger, or conjuring tornados of fish from lakes. The approach keeps things grounded in RuneScape’s identity while giving Dragonwilds its own distinct feel. The game’s soundtrack also leans into that identity, blending reorchestrated RuneScape classics with hours of new music.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds is available now on Steam in Early Access and can be wishlisted on the PSN Store ahead of its console launch later this year.
