Nacon and KT Racing have collaborated together with the WRC Promoter to bring a new virtual competition which is the WRC 8 Esports Tournament. The three-day competition is currently live and will take until April 23.
The event will see 11 WRC hopefuls that will compete against each other in a virtual rally played in the comfort of their own homes during the coronavirus pandemic. Because of the situation that the world is currently in with lockdowns and quarantine, the Rally Argentina has been postponed. This is where the rivers who were to compete in WRC 2, WRC 3, and FIA Junior WRC will instead have to compete online in several special stages from the rally.
WRC 8 is no short of portraying the real-life rally experience, which makes it easier for drivers to compete in the event. However, they will need to adapt their driving on the different terrain encountered in the stages selected for the tournament, just to spice things up.
Following the qualification stages, the best of the eight rivers will head straight to the Quarter Finals. The semi-final of the event will be aired today at 9 pm CET on the WRC Facebook page. The final will be followed up a day later, on April 23, with Facebook being the host of the live stream at 9 pm as well.
The driver line-up for the event includes Pierre-Louis Loubet – the WRC 2 2019 champion – and three WRC 2 drivers from the current season: Adrien Fourmaux, Ole Christian Veiby, and Rhys Yates. Other talented drivers have also been invited to compete, including WRC 3 leader Marco Bulacia, teenage star Oliver Solberg, and the Junior WRC challenger Raul Badiu.
WRC 8 is available on PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PS4. On the other hand, the next title in the franchise, WRC 9 is set to release on September 3, 2020. A next-gen release date will be announced later for PS5, and Xbox Series X.
