Developed and published by Twice Different, the strange new horror adventure game Winnie’s Hole now has a free demo on Steam as the latest trailer dives deep into what the game is all about. In Winnie’s Hole, you do not play as Winnie but you rather play with him, from the inside. As a little virus inside Winnie, you will capture cells to mutate, explore, and randomize cellular worlds, and build a deck of actions in a combo-driven combat. This unique genre-blending roguelite comes from the developer behind Ring of Pain and features a dark yet charming story.
As you explore Winnie’s cells, you will influence his adventure by using tetromino shapes to spread a virus in randomly generated inner worlds. By entering his brain and activating the mutations, you can engage in combo-driven combat. The game features ‘an accessible union of fast-paced, turn-based gameplay which looks beyond common roguelite conventions to create a challenging new format’. Check out the trailer below to see what the game is all about:
Despite the disturbing façade of converting Winnie into a monstrosity, you will find a charming and original story with characters inspired by A.A. Milne’s classic Winnie the Pooh reimagined in a world of dark science and styled like a Brothers’ Grimm fairytale made by Nickelodeon with an unhealthy serving of Cronenberg body horror. That sounds like a lot because it is a lot. Winnie’s Hole started its life as a game title, but now it is a fully fleshed title.
Key features of Winnie’s Hole include:
- Evolve with each run – Unlock new Perks, Mutations, and Virus Strains.
- Mutate your host as a symbiotic virus.
- Bodybuilding in the worst way.
- A storybook narrative that reimagines Winnie in a world of dark science.
- A fresh take on exploration, replacing the typical roguelite node map with strategic, turn-based building using a set of tetromino-like virus blocks which you can evolve and reshape.
- Dynamic battle system where each turn is an action combo for fast-paced gameplay.
- Holesome horror comedy with gritty art inspired by old school Nickelodeon and Brothers’ Grimm fairytales.
Winnie’s Hole is slated for release in 2025 on PC via Steam, and you can add it to your wishlist right now. A free demo is also live, which gives you a small taste of the game.
