The Windows 10 Update Patch KB4482887 is degrading performance for both Nvidia and AMD graphics cards. Microsoft has confirmed the issue and has mentioned the following about the new Windows update:
After installing KB4482887, users may notice graphics and mouse performance degradation with desktop gaming when playing certain games (eg: Destiny 2)
The company mentioned that it is working on a fix so the matter should be resolved soon. If you are not willing to go through all this then you should avoid updating to Windows 10 Update Patch KB4482887 if you have already not done so. You could also revert back to an older version of Windows if you have already updated and need the additional performance. Destiny 2 players might want to revert back if they are using older hardware and have been hit hard.
Woody Leonhard mentioned that it is unlikely that the issue is confined to gamers. Gamers to learn about such issues earlier and it is a matter of time before other people from the industry highlight issues that they are facing. The following is what Leonhard had to say in this regard:
Is the problem confined to games? Highly unlikely, in my experience. It’s just that gamers notice bugs sooner than most of us.
This is an optional non-security update so you can skip it for now, till there is a fix for the problem. Keeping in mind that Microsoft already knows about the issue and that it affects the gaming community the matter should be resolved in a few days if not sooner.
Microsoft is also working on a diskless console that will be coming out next month. This will be the first console that will not come with a disk drive. It should be cheaper than what we currently have on the market and should cost around $200.
