Publisher Dotemu and developer Old Skull Games have revealed the first gameplay footage of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster, a new single-player stealth-action platformer set within the Warhammer Age of Sigmar universe. The game stars Vihneek, a Skaven assassin, and is currently scheduled to launch on PC and consoles in 2027.
Unlike larger Warhammer titles built around established genres, Deathmaster is designed as a standalone experience focused on stealth, platforming and assassination. The gameplay reveal offers a first look at how the game will translate Skaven’s speed, cunning and ruthless approach to combat into a 2D action-platforming format.
Players take control of Vihneek as he ventures into the Gnaw, descending into the dangerous underground territories controlled by the Skaven. The environment is divided across different clan territories, with each area featuring its own threats, behaviors, and hazards.
Stealth appears to be central to progression. Rather than relying solely on direct combat, players will need to observe enemy patterns, identify openings, and use the environment to eliminate targets without being detected. The game also incorporates heightened senses and abilities designed around Skaven’s distinctive characteristics.
Vihneek’s arsenal and abilities can be expanded throughout the adventure. Players will collect warp stones that can be used to unlock new abilities and tools, giving them more options for approaching encounters. This progression system is intended to encourage experimentation, allowing players to develop different strategies for dealing with enemies and navigating hostile areas.
The story is built around Vihneek’s attempt to rise through the ranks of the Eshin Clan. Players will take on assassination contracts and gradually build their reputation by completing increasingly dangerous assignments. The ultimate goal is to become a Deathmaster, the highest and most feared rank an Eshin assassin can achieve.
However, advancement within the Skaven hierarchy is unlikely to be straightforward. The faction is defined by betrayal and political maneuvering, and the game’s story will explore the consequences of Vihneek’s rise through its ranks. The game is scheduled to be released on PC via Steam and consoles in 2027.
