Publisher THQ Nordic and developer HandyGames have announced that their brand-new title Townsmen VR will release on PS VR2 as a launch title. Townsmen is HandyGames’ longest-running IP, and it has been released on dozens of platforms for well over a decade. After exploring nearly all of the devices, the Townsmen franchise is now heading to the VR world with the launch of PS VR2 next month. As HandyGames details, Townsmen VR will take fully leverage the power of the PS5 and the haptic capabilities of the PS VR2 Sense controller so that the builders, farmers, hunters and soldiers feel more lifelike than ever before. Townsmen VR uses the exciting possibilities of VR to further enhance the classic city-building genre through an entirely new gameplay experience and interactive mechanics. The game combines elements of a God-game simulation and a classic building game with the interactive possibilities of VR controls.
Key features of Townsmen VR include:
- A fully-voiced campaign and story arching over 13 islands
- Upgrades and add-ons for buildings
- Research for further upgrades
- Animals like cows, sheep, chickens and wild animals roam the islands
- Build a harbor to have a trader’s ship and begin treasuring up riches
- Buy things at the market instead of harvesting (if you have the gold, of course)
- Reach out and build some bows and crossbows for your soldiers
- Deal with pirates and shady merchants
- Get creative: Sandbox mode for unlimited god action
PS VR2 exclusive features include:
- Haptic feedback for PS VR2 Sense controller lets you feel the environment, weather, pets, the ocean, and more firsthand

Pre-orders for the game are now live, and you can order your copy right now as you wait for the PS VR2 launch next month. Townsmen VR will be released on February 22, 2023, for PS VR2 on the PS5 system. Fans will be able to grab both digital as well as physical versions of Townsmen VR depending on their choice. Back in 2020, Townsmen VR was released on PC platforms.
