Numantian Games’ They Are Billions is getting a PlayStation port by BlitWorks, as the game launches on the Sony console next week. The announcement was made by the CEO of BlitWorks Tony Calbello.
BlitWorks has already worked on porting games like Bastion, Super Meat Boy Spelunky and many other indie games on various consoles. An announce trailer was also released, which you can see below:
Originally released back in December of 2017 for PC, They Are Billions is developed and published by Numantian Games. The game is set in a distant future about building and manage human colonies after a zombie apocalypse destroyed almost all of humankind. There are only a few thousand humans left alive that must struggle to survive under the threat of getting infected. Billions of infected roam around the world in massive swarms seeking and hunting the last living human colonies.
The game comes with a Survival mode where a random world is generated with its own events, weather, geography, and infected population. You must build a successful colony that must survive for a specific period of time against the swarms of infected. It is a fast and ultra-addictive game mode. The developers also plan to release a challenge of the week where all players must play the same random map, and the best scores will be published on a leaderboard.
When the title of the game says billions, they indeed mean billions. The world is full of infected creatures that roam, smell and listen. Every one of them has their own AI, as the developers say they have created a custom engine that handles hordes of thousands of those infected. In fact, the developers say the engine can handle 20,000 units in real time.
All things said, They Are Billions is setting up to be an interesting game on consoles. It would be great to see how the port on the PlayStation 4 would handle the hordes of the infected.
