Review: The Guise – Nintendo Switch

Publisher Ratalaika Games and developer Rasul Mono have announced the console release of the dark Metroidvania Fairytale The Guise. The Guise is a stylish and dark Metroidvania fairytale about a boy trapped in the body of a monster. After its PC release, The Guise is now all set for its console release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on March 17, 2023. Check out the new teaser trailer released for The Guise below:

The Guise is a side-scrolling game where you play as a boy inside the body of a monster and you explore a world filled with dying settlements, dark forests, winding dungeons, and deadly valleys filled with demons. There is no light in this world and everything has been consumed by darkness. A boy named Ogden finds a strange mask and when he wears it, it turns him into a demon. From here, Ogden gains new abilities and begins his quest to become human again. Your goal in The Guise is to get used to your new body, master new abilities, and try not to lose the remnants of your humanity as you figure out how to turn yourself back into a human.

Sticking true to the Metroidvania concept, you will gain new abilities after beating bosses and gain new abilities which will grant you access to new areas which were previously unavailable to you. There are different abilities in the game such as running on the ceiling, finishing moves, acid spitting, bomb belching, and more and these are only obtained after you have defeated certain bosses in the game. These new abilities will not only allow you to defeat enemies easily but also gain access to new areas.
