According to a report by VGC’s Cheesemeister, Sony might be discontinuing several models of the PS4 4 and PS4 Pro. The news comes after a sign was spotted at a Japanese retail store which appears to show that Sony has begun to take some models out of production.
@Cheesemeister3k posted a tweet in which a sign at a Japanese retail store can be seen which says:
Dear customers: due to the manufacturer ending production, the following products will not be restocked.”
- PS4 500GB Glacier White
- PS4 1TB Jet Black
- PS4 1TB Glacier White
- PS4 2TB Jet Black
- PS4 Pro 1TB Glacier White

This sign was posted near PlayStation 4 accessories in the store. According to the sign, the 500GB Glacier White, 1TB Jet Black, 1TB Glacier White, 2TB Jet Black, and Sony PS4 Pro 1TB Glacier White models may be getting discontinued or are already discontinued by Sony.
So far there has been no official word from Sony about this matter and all this is speculation from the note in a Japanese retail store. But discontinuing most of the Old generation consoles makes sense for Sony as it will give them more time to focus on the stock problems of the new PS5 console which has been hard to get since its launch in November due to limited stock.
According to VG247, the PS4 has been out of stock on the Sony Direct store for more than a month so if the above is true, then Sony may have already cut off the cord for the PS4 console. And this is not the end of Sony’s problem as the PS5 is not doing that well since its launch.
PlayStation 5 had the worst launch for Sony in Japan in its history, selling only 240,000 units in the first 6 weeks of launch. We will have to wait and see what Sony’s next move will be.
