Sirius Dice has announced the D&D Red Box Basic Set Minis, a new collection of metal miniatures inspired by one of the most recognizable images in tabletop gaming history. The four-piece set recreates Larry Elmore’s iconic cover artwork for the 1983 Dungeons & Dragons Basic Set, commonly known among fans as the Red Box, and is scheduled to launch this September.
For many players, the Red Box served as their introduction to Dungeons & Dragons, with its memorable cover depicting a lone fighter facing a towering red dragon. The artwork has become one of the defining images of the tabletop role-playing game, and Sirius Dice is now translating that scene into a set of collectible 32mm-scale miniatures.
The collection includes four characters from the classic illustration: the Dragon, Fighter, Magic-User, and Thief. While the dragon and fighter recreate the central confrontation shown on the original box art, Sirius Dice says the Magic-User and Thief are receiving miniature representations for the first time, allowing collectors to assemble the complete adventuring party.
Each figure is cast in metal with an antique finish and produced at 32mm scale, making the set suitable both as a display piece and for use during tabletop role-playing sessions. Players can incorporate the miniatures into their own Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, while collectors may choose to recreate the famous Red Box scene as a standalone display.
The release reflects the continued popularity of classic Dungeons & Dragons artwork and memorabilia. First published in 1983, the Basic Set helped introduce a new generation of players to the role-playing hobby and remains one of the franchise’s most recognizable products decades later. Larry Elmore’s cover art, in particular, has become synonymous with the early years of D&D and continues to inspire licensed collectibles.
Sirius Dice has positioned the new set as both a nostalgic tribute and a playable accessory, appealing to longtime fans of the tabletop RPG as well as miniature collectors interested in iconic moments from gaming history.
The D&D Red Box Basic Set Minis are available to pre-order now through Amazon and participating local game stores for $79.99 ahead of their September release. The collection includes all four metal miniatures needed to recreate the classic 1983 Dungeons & Dragons Red Box cover artwork.
