Sega Acquires Two Point Studios, Developer Behind Two Point Hospital

Sega Two Point Studios

Sega Europe has announced that it has acquired Two Point Studios which is the developer behind the wacky hospital sim Two Point Hospital. The cost has not been detailed by Sega at this point however, Sega has mentioned that Two Point Studios has been acquired under the company’s Searchlight program.

Sega started its Searchlight program which helps the publisher and developer find new development talent and games to support. Sega is the publisher behind Two Point Hospital so it makes perfect sense for it to acquire Two Point Studios so that the studio can continue to survive in the competitive market.

Two Point Hospital was released to critical reception and people loved the spiritual successor to Theme Hospital. It was not an official spiritual successor to Theme Hospital but the developers of the game viewed it as one. Two Point Studios was formed in 2016 by Mark Webley, Ben Hymers, and Gary Carr.

Both Mark and Gary have worked on the original Theme Hospital at Bullfrog nearly 20 years ago so Two Point Hospital was home ground to both of them. This was the reason behind delivering a solid title in the form of Two Point Hospital. According to GamesIndusry.biz, Webley stated:

It’s a landmark step for Two Point Studios and we’re thrilled to be joining the Sega family. We’re looking forward to executing the next phase of our plans as we continue to evolve Two Point County. It’s a hugely exciting time to be a part of Two Point and we are here today thanks to the hard work, passion and dedication of our small, but amazingly talented team here in Farnham and the incredible fans that have supported us throughout and guided our continued development of Two Point Hospital.

Whereas, on the other hand, Sega Europe president and COO Gary Dale said:

We’re delighted to welcome Two Point Studios officially in to the Sega family. As a relatively new, British-based developer with a global hit already under their belts, we knew we had to move quickly on this deal because they are an extremely attractive investment proposition with a great deal of talent. The Searchlight team at Sega Europe have done a fantastic job integrating the studio over the past two years and the studio have gone on to produce a fantastic title with clear franchise potential.

GamesIndustry.biz also reports that Two Point Studios is currently working on different unannounced titles and details on these titles will be announced at a later stage. We can be sure that under Sega’s umbrella, Two Point Studios will continue to deliver better titles than before and we are looking forward to their upcoming titles.
