Indie publisher Ratalaika Games and Tokyo-based publisher LLC Shinyuden have announced the release date for Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel on consoles. Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel will be making its return on October 6th, 2024, on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch, bringing a classic platformer back to the modern gaming scene.

Fans of the Aero the Acro-Bat series will be thrilled to see one of the franchise’s most iconic villains, Zero, take the spotlight in this action-packed adventure. Originally introduced as a foe to Aero, Zero now embarks on his own journey, proving that even bad guys can have a shot at heroism.

The story unfolds when Zero’s girlfriend, Amy, sends him a distressing message: their forest home is being destroyed by an evil lumberjack, Jacques Le Sheets, who has also kidnapped Amy’s father to suppress any resistance. Determined to save his homeland, Zero defies orders from his superior, Edgar, and sets out to confront the villainous lumberjack. However, his journey takes a dangerous turn when his plane is shot down, forcing Zero to navigate the treacherous terrain on foot.

Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel offers you a thrilling mix of ninja-style combat, platforming, and exploration. Across 15 stages, you will guide Zero through intense action sequences, engage in battles with various enemies, and face off against powerful bosses. The game also includes a variety of gameplay enhancements to elevate the experience for both new you and long-time fans of the original.

Among the updated features, you can choose between the English and Japanese versions of the game and enjoy a suite of modern conveniences. The game’s rewind and turbo functions allow you to retry difficult sections or speed through them, while save states let you pick up from exactly where you left off. Additionally, the game offers a range of screen filters for a customizable retro experience, along with a gallery showcasing original game artwork and designs.
