Assassin’s Creed Shadows Mackenyu

Ubisoft has announced that actor Mackenyu, best known for portraying Roronoa Zoro in Netflix’s One Piece live-action series, will make his video game debut in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Set for release on March 20, the game will feature Mackenyu’s voice and likeness as he takes on the role of Gennojo, a charismatic figure you will encounter on their journey.

Gennojo crosses paths with the game’s dual protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke while pursuing a crucial target. You can recruit him into the Shinobi League, where he aids in the fight against widespread corruption in Feudal Japan. Mackenyu will provide both Japanese and English voiceovers for his character, bringing an authentic and dynamic presence to the role.

Reflecting on his involvement in the franchise, Mackenyu shared his enthusiasm for the project, recalling his early experiences with Assassin’s Creed:

I have fond memories of the franchise. I was in middle school when Assassin’s Creed first came out, and I remember my friends and I taking turns playing the game at a friend’s house,” he said. “When I heard that the new Assassin’s Creed game would be set in Japan, I knew that I needed to be part of this project.

Jonathan Dumont, Creative Director at Ubisoft Québec, praised Mackenyu’s contribution, emphasizing the depth he brings to the character.

Mackenyu’s performance added something really special to our game. His unique energy and charisma breathe life into Gennojo, and we’re eager for you to meet the character and explore his story.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows transports you to the turbulent era of Feudal Japan, a time of conflict and transformation as the nation moves toward unification. The game introduces a dual protagonist system, featuring Naoe, a skilled shinobi from Iga, and Yasuke, a formidable African samurai. Their intertwined journeys offer distinct gameplay styles, allowing you to experience the story from different perspectives in a world where morality is not always clear-cut.
