Numskull Designs Announces New Kickstarter for Polybius Quarter Arcade

Polybius Quarter Arcade

Numskull Designs has finally revealed their brand new project, a Collector’s Edition Polybius Quarter Arcade, and have announced a Kickstarter campaign for it. Normally, Numskull Designs launches the Quarter Arcades without any sort of initial Kickstarter or any similar crowd-funding but this time around, Numskull Designs wants to deliver a Quarter Arcade that is truly worth a Collector’s Edition.

Polybius was a video game cabinet that was released back in the early 1980s around the city of Portland, Oregon, USA. It was a game that was shrouded in various conspiracy theories that stem from speculation around its mysterious gameplay mechanics that allegedly included a number of subliminal, hypnotic, and colorful shapes that could brainwash players. Numskull Designs is now launching a dedicated Kickstarter in 2020 to bring Polybius to its Quarter Arcade Range.

Numskull Designs explains that normally, the Quarter Arcades are produced in collaboration with brands that owned their own arcade games and they get to sell these cabinets onto retailers. They acquire the license to produce the product and thus the Quarter Arcade comes into existence. With a Kickstarter campaign, they can first gauge the interest in the product and deliver quickly to the particular hardcore retro fanbase that wants it.

They further detail:

Given that the community has largely kept the name, mythos and legend of Polybius alive, we thought that this style of campaign would be the best way to ensure that this product actually comes to fruition.

The cabinet of Polybius has been developed using the images available in the public domain, playing up to and adding an aesthetic based on that of the legend itself. It comes with a black box mysterious packaging playing up to the story behind the conspiracy making this look like a really top-secret mysterious item. Additional details on the cabinet design along with the rewards and their tiers are now live on the official Kickstarter page.
