Some rumors regarding the new and upcoming Nintendo Switch console have surfaced according to which, Nintendo is planning to begin the assembly of the new Switch console sometime in July, with the release date sometime in late September or early October.
These rumors come from people close to Nintendo and according to the current known information, the new and updated console is said to be priced higher than the original Switch which costs $299 USD. The updated Nintendo Switch may be announced ahead of the E3 conference starting June 12.
It will allow publishers to showcase their full range of Switch games at the global event, the people said, asking not to be named because the plans are not yet public. It will be sold alongside the $199 Switch Lite, with the standard Switch phased out over time.
According to the news source, the Assemblers will start shipping the new model as early as July and production is planned to ramp up to a peak in the October-December quarter. This is despite the widespread semiconductor shortages that have affected the supply of everything from cars to electronics.
Nintendo’s new console will be looking to compete for gamers’ attention with a new console generation introduced by rivals Sony and Microsoft in November. Nintendo is bringing new upgrades to its flagship console with a 7-inch Samsung Display Co. OLED display and faster Nvidia Corp. graphics silicon making it capable of 4K output when docked to a TV.
Pricier components and rising labor costs in China are likely to push the new Switch’s price up from the $299 that the console has been at since its launch in March 2017. Suppliers are confident they can fulfill Nintendo’s orders despite the ongoing chip shortages. We will have to wait for more information regarding Nintendo’s upcoming updated Switch Console.
