Publisher 4Divinity and developer Eschatology Entertainment have announced Guns of Eschaton, a mystical Western first-person shooter built around Souls-like combat, set in the last original universe envisioned by the late Viktor Antonov, the art director behind iconic titles like Half-Life 2 and Dishonored.
The game takes place in a reimagined 19th-century America, blending real historical figures and Old West archetypes with a fantastical apocalyptic setting. Players journey from the West Coast to the East through a dying America, where every encounter is built to feel genuinely dangerous, demanding preparation and careful resource management rather than straightforward gunplay.
Combat leans on a handful of interlocking systems designed to reward planning over reflexes alone. Specialized ammunition types, precise dashes, and well-timed parries all play a role, alongside the Codex, a system that reveals enemy weaknesses through Sequence Points. Together, these mechanics are meant to make every fight feel deliberate, reinforcing the idea that every shot matters.
Character progression is built around deep customization, giving players a wide arsenal of firearms, ammunition types, occult powers, talismans, armor, and consumables to experiment with. The game encourages combining active and passive abilities to find effective synergies, with legendary gunslingers scattered throughout the world offering their own tricks to learn along the way. The game can be played entirely solo or in co-op, with both supporting full progression so players aren’t locked out of content based on how they choose to play.
Eschatology Entertainment Studio Head Fuad Kuliev described the announcement as an honour, saying he had the privilege of shaping the world directly alongside Antonov from the earliest stages of development. He called Antonov’s imagination and creative legacy a constant source of inspiration throughout the project, crediting the wider team’s collaborative effort in bringing that vision to life with 4Divinity.
Guns of Eschaton is slated for release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Players looking forward to jumping into Guns of Eschaton on PC can now add it to their wishlist as well. Additional details about the game, including a confirmed release date, will be announced at a later stage.
