Sony has announced that Gran Turismo 7 has been delayed from its initially announced release window of 2021 to 2022 due to COVID-19. This was revealed by Sony’s CEO Jim Ryan in an exclusive interview with GQ where he stated that the last year was a difficult year for everyone and one of the major impacts at Sony is the delay of Gran Turismo 7 as the developer of the game was unable to work properly because of it.
His exact statement details:
GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022. With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months. We’ll share more specifics on GT7’s release date when available.
Gran Turismo 7 is the eighth main installment in Sony’s long-running racing franchise and it was revealed back in 2020 along with the reveal of the PS5 itself. After GT Sport, Gran Turismo 7 is taking the franchise back to the numbered series and the short trailer that was released back in 2020 showcased a fairly decent amount of cars and tracks that we can expect to see in the game when it comes out. One of the most iconic tracks The Trial Mountain is also making its return back in GT 7 as it was showcased in the official reveal trailer.
However, the track does appear to be somewhat changed here and there which is natural for the developers at Polyphony Digital. Apart from this, GT Sport lacked a lot of features that a typical Gran Turismo title is known for and it appears like they are coming back in Gran Turismo 7. We wrote a separate feature on what features are returning back to the franchise so you can check it out for details as well.
