Square Enix has announced that the Game Director of Final Fantasy XV; Hajime Tabata has departed from the studio. The announcement came during a live streamed Final Fantasy presentation, which outline the studio’s plans for the upcoming DLC packs and the new standalone multiplayer mode of Final Fantasy XV.
The news abot the DLC came as a surprise as 3 of the 4 announced DLC packs have been cancelled that were scheduled for 2019 release. The cancellation suggest that the Episodes concerned with characters like Lunafreye, Aranea and Noctis have all been abandoned though the Ardyn pack, which is mainly the focus of the game’s main antagonist, will still be coming in March of next year. Take a look at the Episode Ardyn teaser below.
Global Brand Director Akio Ofuji says that the team assigned to develop the DLC has been moved to another AAA title.
“A new company called Luminous Productions was formed, centered around the staff who had previously been developing the main game as part of BD2, and they have continued to work on the project since,” said Akio during the Stream. “The main purpose of establishing Luminous Productions was to create a studio that can deliver a completely new AAA title to the global market.
The desire is to deliver this new AAA experience to everyone even a day [sic] sooner, and due to this directional change, the company decided to focus our resources on the development of this AAA title.”
In the live stream presentation, a new standalone multiplayer mode was also announced for Final Fantasy XV’s multiplayer component Comrades. The standalone editions will be release for PS4 and Xbox one, while there is now news if it will be coming for PC players.
In addition, it was also announced Final Fantasy XIV will get a special event designed for Final Fantasy XV owners, which will feature Noctis in a quest that is titled “Adventurer From Another World”.
