Fortnite developer Epic Games has confirmed that they are exploring the possibility of adding respawn feature included in the battle royale game sensation. The inspiration might have come from Apex Legends which currently has a respawn system integrated in the battle royale game.
Apex Legends has brought forth a very unique respawning system in the game that no other battle royale game offers. The basics of the feature is to allow eliminated players a limited amount of time where the teammates can pick up their banner to respawn them.
Teammates are then brought back in the map where they can join the fight with the rest of the teammates. However, they are dropped down with no weapons or gear, leaving players to search for loot all over again.
The feature among many other features that were in Apex Legends has certainly caught the eyes of Epic Games. The confirmation was made by a producer at Epic Games on Reddit, where he answered to a fan about the developing studio considering such feature for Fortnite.
We’ve been considering this mechanic for a while and have been exploring it. Want to make sure we give it the time it needs and fully understand its impact on the game as a whole. Look for further updates during Season 8.
Other features in Apex Legends include the fantastic ping mechanics of items that can help players communicate about item locations. This feature was the most praised in the game, as something that felt natural to the smooth gameplay of Apex.
With that in mind, respawning wasn’t the only feature brought up, as Epic has said that Season 8 is going to introduced improvements to map markers and team communication. Is this hinting towards a ping system like we have in Apex? We shall soon find out as Season 8 of Fortnite begins to roll out in a few days starting in March.
