Death Stranding Release Date Announced, Coming November 8 This Year

We finally have a release date for Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, and it is set to release this year on November 8, 2019. The game is now the most highly anticipated game of this year and makes it the big Sony PlayStation 4 exclusive to release in 2019.

With the announcement, we have learned from Kotaku’ Jason Schreier that the release date of The Last of Us 2 has been pushed to 2020, as a result of Death Stranding’s release date.

The release date for Death Stranding was confirmed via a very extensive teaser that was streamed on Twitch, giving us an exclusive look on what the upcoming game would be like on the PlayStation 4. The stream also confirmed that the game would come out for the PlayStation 5 soon after the console will be available.

Meanwhile, Kojima also posted a cryptic description of the game over at the PlayStation Blog,

People have created “Walls” and become accustomed to living in isolation.

Death Stranding is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the “Strand” or connection. As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or “Strands” with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you’ll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others.

Death Stranding was first revealed back in 2016 as the first major project by Hideo Kohima after his departure from Konami and the Metal Gear Solid franchise. The exit also followed the cancellation of the Silent Hills reboot. Since then, he has been teasing Death Stranding with cryptic teasers, messages, and hints all throughout the course of the last couple of years. The highly anticipated game features actors like Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead TV show, Guillermo del Toro, and Mads Mikkelsen among many famous actors.

The game still remains a mystery, however, a release date confirmation was much needed. There were some pessimistic opinions that suggested the game would not even release on the PlayStation 4, but the next generation console from Sony. Now that this issue is put to rest, fans can only wait for the details to pour out at this year’s E3 2019 event next month.

Sony also revealed the various versions of the game, which includes the Death Stranding Collector’s Edition, which contains the creepy baby pod statue. The Collector’s Edition comes with a BB Pod Statue, a Bridges Cargo Case, and Ludens Keychain.
