Cyberpunk 2077 Removed from Sale on PSN as Sony Pulls Title Until Further Notice

Cyberpunk 2077 PSN

Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the most hyped titles of the previous-gen however it is also one of the most buggies launch ever. Players jumping in the game on the base PS4 and Xbox One experienced extremely poor performance and gameplay experience which led to global fan outcry and many of them demanding refunds over the title. With no next-gen release at this point, players are forced to play the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game on PS5 and Xbox Series, or they are left with PC. Because of this, Sony has taken action and has removed Cyberpunk 2077 for sale from PSN until further notice.

CD Projekt Red clearly admitted earlier and apologized to the gaming community that they should have spent more time on making the game better on the base versions of consoles. This apology came after the studio boasted over their social media accounts that Cyberpunk 2077 is the biggest launch for them and they made a profit in a single day. Since the game’s launch, the developer has issued numerous apologies and has promised to fix the game with further patches but it appears like the damage has been done and Sony is the first platform to take action on this.

The game also broke the concurrent players record on Seam at its launch. At this point, Cyberpunk 2077 is not available for sale on PSN anymore which means that no one can purchase the game digitally for the platform anymore. Sony has also not issued any statement regarding when the game will be back on the platform. It is also offering full refunds to players who purchased the title but now want a refund. Their official statement states:

In response to this, the company stock price has plummeted as well. Yesterday, CD Projekt Red’s stock closed at $85.19 however, today it opened at just $71.63. This makes a 15.9% drop in the share price in just one night. It is clear that the investors are not happy about the game’s condition and its extremely buggy launch and how the developer has treated the launch phase.

According to Reuters, CD Projekt Red will remain for sale on the Xbox One since the developer is not in talks with Microsoft for removing the game from its gaming store. Since its launch, the company has lost more than $6.6 billion in shareholder value. This is a really big figure and can certainly affect how CD Projekt Red continues to operate as an independent developer in the future.
