Nordic Game Supply AB has revealed its latest ultra-compact mechanical gaming keyboard known as The Shrimp. Keeping freedom and ergonomics at the front line, The Shrimp is a unique ultra-compact keyboard that gives you the freedom to position your hands as you desire. The Shrimp is a keyboard that is aimed at players who love gaming both at home and on the move and it saves you tons of space with its minimalistic yet practical design.
Most of the time gamers leave their gaming keyboards at home when they are traveling with their gaming laptops and gaming mouse however with The Shrimp, gamers can now take their keyboard everywhere as well since it is really small in size and can fit anywhere easily. The Shrimp has a standard layout, and the keys are exactly the same and in the same locations as that of a standard keyboard. Nothing is changed from that of a standard keyboard which ensures that your hands feel at home even on the move.
The Shrimp features brand-new Gateron G Pro switches plated on an elegant Nordic design body which has plenty of sound-dampening materials inside it as well. If you prefer, the keyboard also comes with a detachable magnetically connectable wrist rest with soft padding and a textured surface which suits greatly a wide variety of wrist placements. The keycaps come with the classic Cherry profile which is a bit lower and considered to be much better than the OEM profile. The keycaps also feature ‘oversized’ lettering which showcased more of the RGB.
The Shrimp features 25 keys which is a solid number of keys for casual gaming. It gives you all of the basic keys that you will need for any type of gaming. If you do not want to use the default key bindings, you can map the keys in-game to suit your need for all of the available keys. Kari Viljanen, product developer of the Shrimp details:
We wanted to brush off some dust from a “gaming keyboard”. There hasn’t been much evolution happening on keyboards from the computer terminal keyboards of the 1970’s. The “gaming keyboard” of today seems to be mainly a standard keyboard made in black color with an addition of RGB lighting and maybe a couple extra buttons too far away from easy reach.” says Kari Viljanen, product developer of the Shrimp™. “Having them be mechanical is not a new innovation of the last decade, it’s actually going back in time and bringing back the superior technology of old. All keyboards used to be mechanical and later became membrane to cut costs when the home PC market was booming.
Now we haven’t re-invented a wheel here either. The Shrimp is also a standard keyboard, albeit its tiny size. There have also been keypad-sized gaming devices before the Shrimp but they have either been non-standard layouts, made to adapt keyboard & mouse on gaming consoles or have had some off-putting futuristic “space-captain” designs. I believe we have made a design that is both comfortable to use and looks great on your desktop.
