Mike Pondsmith talked about the fact that many developers reached out to him in an effort to make Cyberpunk 2077 but he chose CDPR over all of them. He mentioned that the team has played the pen and paper games and it is like if people that watched Star Wars in their youth made a Star Wars game. That would be something spectacular indeed.
Mike Pondsmith actually believes in CDPR and mentioned that the game is in good hands. We went on to talk about the unique take on the Cyberpunk genre as follows:
We have a unique take on the cyberpunk genre: it’s a heroic kind of cyberpunk in this sort of dirty, gritty way, but you can still be the hero. That’s unusual for the genre and a lot of the game companies who have been interested before saw maybe the Blade Runner-esque qualities, but they didn’t see the weird, fun and dangerous, risky elements. It’s hard to describe. It was the ethos of the 80s, that a lone person with a gun and an attitude could change the world.
Pondsmith was also asked about a potential Cyberpunk movie and he said that is was probable, keeping in mind that Keanu Reeves is now on board. I am sure that is something that the fans would be very interested in checking out.
We know that the team is working on finishing the game so it is unlikely that we will hear about a movie any time soon. The game is set to release on April 16, 2020. So fans should not expect to hear about a movie until then.
After that, the CDPR might work on expansions and other features. CDPR might release an enhanced Cyberpunk 2077 port for the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett. Pondsmith did tease Cyberpunk 2077 by mentioning the following:
At the end of the day, there will be a moment in 2077 when you’re sitting there as V and you’ll look down and realise that both of your hands are essentially cybernetic tool factories. As a player, you should at some point think, what is that like? There should be that moment of discomfort.
Mike Pondsmith has a lot of trust in CDPR and so does the gaming community. I hope that Cyberpunk 2077 meets the expectations of the fans.
Let us know what you think about Cyberpunk 2077 and whether or not you are interested in playing the game when it comes out next year.
