Borderlands is known for having a unique and impressive diversity of loot that range with rarities. Seven years after the release of Borderlands 2, dataminers have discovered an all new item rarity hidden within the game’s files.
Twitter user Captain Koby_ has discovered the Rainbow rarity items in the title files. CaptainKoby is also the creator of the Reborn mod pack for Borderlands 2, and was recently digging into the game files of Borderlands 2 where he discovered this new rarity.
However, the Rainbow rarity is only in the game files at this point, and not actually present in the game just yet. This has led some to speculate regarding when and why Gearbox appears to be planning something.
The Rainbow rarity not being in the game did not stop Koby to replicate the rarity on the weapons in the Reborn mod pack. And they look pretty good. Take a look at one of the weapon below:

It is unclear at this point if Gearbox plans on releasing the Rainbow rarity into Borderlands 2, but considering the fact that Borderlands 3 is just around the corner, Gearbox will not exactly leave the game in the dust for now. Koby also added that Rainbow rarity might have been accidentally added in the game files, and possible be removed in a future patch.
For now, we can only wait for more details to come out, if any. Gearbox is prepping up for Borderlands 3, and a gameplay reveal event is scheduled for 1 May during which they will reveal actual gameplay of the game.
Borderlands 3 releases on 13 September, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. What do you think of the Rainbow rarity in Borderlands 2? Do you think it is something Gearbox will add in the future? Post your comments below.
