AMD Radeon RX 6800M RDNA 2 Mobility GPU Spotted Online Based on Navi 22

AMD Radeon RX 6800M

A high-end model of the upcoming AMD Radeon RX 6000M Mobile GPUs has been spotted online. The model is the Radeon RX 6800M and was spotted by Twitter user Komachi in the latest display driver of AMD Radeon. The Radeon RX 6800M is confirmed as AMD’s next high-end mobile GPU flagship and will be replacing the 5700M.

The AMD Radeon RX 6000M Mobile GPUs will be based on the new RDNA 2 architecture, the same one on which the desktop RX 6000 series is based on. They will be the successors to the RX 5000M Mobile GPUs which had great on paper specifications but there was no proper availability in the retail segment.

The AMD Radeon RX 6800M was spotted in the latest AMD graphics driver update. The GPU has the 73D5:C3 Device ID and looks like a variant of the Navi 22 GPU. There are at least three variants of the AMD Navi 22 SKU which exist with two being specific to the Radeon RX 6700 XT and the C3 variant for the Radeon RX 6800M.

Looks like AMD is planning to utilize the Navi 22 GPU in the mobile flagship 6800M instead of the Navi 21 because of the higher TGP requirements for the Navi 21 GPU. It would be difficult to cool such high TGP in a mobile form factor so maybe that is why AMD opted for the Navi 22 GPU.

Coming to the specifications, the AMD Radeon RX 6800M may feature 2560 Cores and 40 Ray Accelerators which is the standard specs of the Navi 22 GPU. The Navi 22 GPU also features 96 MB of Infinity Cache so we can expect that to remain intact for the mobility part. The memory size would be interesting as AMD can go with either 12 GB or even 24 GB with the 192-bit bus interface.

We will have to wait and see when AMD announces the mobile RX 6000M series and how they will stand against NVIDIA’s mobile offerings. Expect more information on these models in the coming months close to Computex 2021.
